Our Historic Home Renovation Process
1. Research and Assessment
As any historical practice begins, our process starts with research. We dive deep into the history of your home and get to know the initial architecture and original design, as well as any past renovations and changes the space may have undergone. We reach out to the local historic preservation office and zoning authorities so we can develop a comprehensive restoration plan that incorporates as many historical features as possible.
2. Renovation Plan Development
Once we have all the information, we start to plan our construction. We’ll work with experts in classical architecture and ensure we have the skills and equipment necessary to restore the exquisite original features. During this time, we’ll also make a plan to incorporate the new and custom elements you want, such as new countertops and exterior touches that can enhance the design.
3. Structural Repairs and Architectural Preservation
With a plan in place, we can get down to business. Our historic renovation contractors will start with the basics, restoring any structural aspects and architecture to their former glory. Whatever decade or century your home was built in, we’ll use the same techniques and tools as our ancestors to recreate authentic designs.
4. Efficiency and Code Compliance Updates
Even the most beautiful and well-constructed homes in history need upgrades from time to time. Since building codes have changed and regulations evolved throughout the years, some of the current features may no longer meet the necessary safety guidelines. Furthermore, many of our processes have become more energy-efficient. We’ll use these modern standards to bring your building up to code while maintaining its appeal and defining features.
5. Additions and Renovations
While your house holds historical significance within your community, it’s also your home, and you should feel empowered to add to and adjust it to fit your ever-changing needs. Once we’ve preserved the integrity of your building, we’ll move forward with making historically compatible adjustments, additions and renovations that seamlessly blend the modern era with the past.
6. Inspection and Approval
Once we add the final touches, we’ll meticulously inspect every inch of our work. Our contractors will work with code regulators and engineers to ensure your historic home renovation meets all safety standards and finalize it for approval.
