FAQs on DADU Additions
What Is a DADU?
A detached accessory dwelling unit (DADU) can be described as a small residential living space sitting on the same lot as an existing structure. DADUs can be built from the ground up or take the form of a renovation — some homeowners convert detached garages into DADUs to expand the available living space.
What Is the Difference Between a DADU and an AADU?
Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) can be either detached accessory dwelling units (DADUs), which are standalone structures, or attached accessory dwelling units (AADUs). An AADU is joined to the primary structure. They are typically smaller than DADUs, as they follow the physical restrictions of a preexisting structure.
How Do You Supply Electricity to DADUs?
Depending on the size of the DADU and power consumption needs, it may be possible for builders to run electricity from the primary structure’s meter. However, most service providers will require you to have a separate electrical meter and panel to abide by local codes.
